Last night the sun set at 10:19 and this morning the sun rose at 4:30. That’s a long day!
Today we were to visit the Swedish island of Visby in Gotland. This was the only port on our itinerary where we needed to anchor and have tenders take us to shore. Shortly after our arrival off the harbour, our captain informed us that due to rough seas, it might be possible to get us off the boat on to the tenders, but we’d never be able to get off the tenders at shore safely, due to violent wave action.
So, scratch Visby and on to Latvia. You can see from the only look we got at Visby above, that the waves are indeed pretty nasty.
This meant that suddenly we had a day at sea and everybody, the ship’s crew especially, was scrambling to fill their day. The library was overflowing. The internet café had a back log. The mini golf tournament had a waiting list. And, generally many were still grumbling that the seas didn’t look all that bad and we really could’ve made it ashore. Like they’d know!
Anyway, we - AKA the four of us - quite enjoyed the day although we lamented missing a UNESCO World Heritage Site. C’est la vie! It gave us time to relax, exercise and have two nice meals in the Grand Dining Room. We’ve also gotten into the routine of two for one drinks during Happy Hour. They’re going to have to roll us off the ship.
