Bordeaux and the Grand Crus

Today was another sunny day, but as we checked with weather back home it appeared that we are having the same temps. as Ontario. The main difference might be that the roses aren't blooming like this.
The plan for today was to start with an exploration of old Bordeaux. Before that however, we felt it was important to check one of the five best Chateaux in Bordeaux and the closest to us - Chateau Margaux. This is an incredibly beautiful and private estate, only a short walk from our hotel.
As it turns out, this is also probably the most beautiful of all of the 1eme Grand Cru Classes. After that it was about an hour drive to the heart of a city, compared to as a small Paris - Bordeaux. We found parking in a below ground garage and began our tour.
As it turned out, our car park let us out right next to one of the most impressive churches of Bordeaux - St. Andre or St. Andrews as we anglos like to call it.
With help from a do it yourself tour guide that we purchased at the Tabac, we headed for the Gironde River and the attractions along its route. The first was the Place de la Bourse, an impressive semi circular replica of the Place Vendome in Paris. The first sight in this place was the fountain with three naked hotties spinkling water on those below.
The most impressive feature was the Place itself and the relecting mirror of water in front of it. At first glance, this pond is a deep pool of water, when in fact it was only 2 cm deep (1 inch). Kids and animals alike joyed in cavorting in this space. This place is right on the Gironde River. From here we headed back towards the car park and found a nice little brasserie for lunch called the Foch, named after the avenue on which it was located. heading further down the Avenue Marchal Foch, we came upon this impressive monument called the Monument des Girondins. We then collected our Renault and headed back to premier wine country. Our objective was to find some of the other 1eme Grand Cru Classes establishments. We found three of them but also found many other impressive chateaux. Other top wineries we found were Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, below its neighbouring Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, which ws very modern and very private and Chateau Latour. We passed through many fabulous appellations, from Margaux, to Paulliac to St. Julien. For dinner this evening, we opted for take out pizza which we ate in C&C's room while we played cards. This was another full day, ending with "Bite Me". Perfect!
