Rose and the Hot Sun
I was thinking back today, of when we began our regular returns to France in 2002. When we went out to a restaurant, everyone was drinking this pink stuff. In Canada, we had always identified this as a sweet Mateus style wine. Of course we had to investigate and immediately fell in love with this dry, crisp wine especially when it is well chilled. In the heat France has been experiencing, rose sales must be going through the roof, because there is nothing like it on a hot sunny day. Shopping for rose can be a little bewildering, given that all regions of France produce the stuff - except maybe the Alsace - and each region has its own unique take on the colour and flavour of the wine, from ruby red to pale pink.
After a grocery outing, we settled back into Chez Pigeon to drink bubbly rose. Heh, it was sunny and hot - perfect! Then, we took a photo walk about Cairanne, chatted up the guard goose and admired the views to Mt. Ventoux.
Of course, the second photo is the tourist photo spot featuring Chez Pigeon. It was another fabulous day in Provence!!!
