Off to Vegas

Travel in the winter can be a challenge. But that didn't stop us from planning a trip to the American west. Our flight plan involved a transfer in Detroit and then on to Las Vegas - straight forward enough until the freezing rain hit and kept our plane from getting to us from Atlanta for two hours. We began to wonder if we'd make our connector in Detroit, but we got to Detroit and were literally the last passengers boarding the plane to Vegas. So, shortly before 6:00 Vegas time, we landed and were immediately impressed by the Vegas Airport with its casino. I guess you might as well learn early how to part with your money. Brenda and Bill met us at the luggage carousel, our bag was already there and off we went to the Vdara Hotel. The hotel is fairly new and impressive, but the view from our room was more so, with the Bellagio fountains and numerous iconic Vegas sites for our viewing enjoyment. For dinner this evening we dined at Scarpetta in the Cosmopolitan right next door. It was excellent, with offerings of beef tartare for Dawn and I, short ribs for Bill, a julienned frito of veggies and seafood for Dawn and duck/foie gras ragioli for the rest of us. With the three hour time change, we didn't last too long after dinner and quickly planned our outing for tomorrowbefore crashing.
