Marina, Here We Come!
Early this morning it was apparent that the quiet nature of our hotel had been quickly transformed. Marina had arrived and deposited about a hundred passengers at our hotel for the day while they awaited an evening flight. It felt like we were already on the cruise ship, staking our claim on lounge chairs before the interlopers took over.
I reality, we made a very leisurely exit from our room, knowing that the shuttle to take us to Papeete wasn’t arranged until 3:00. We sat on the balcony enjoying breakfast and the last lingering views of the distant island of Moorea. Then, we made a mad scramble for ownership of a couple of loungers on the beach in the shade. Less than a half hour later, there wasn’t a spare chair to be had.
So we sat and watched the kayakers and stand boarders go by just inside the thundering surf. We also watched a spear fisherman collect some lunch from the sea.
I was told the current was too dangerous for snorkeling today, so we sat in the shade reading and enjoying the view, without sunscreen. That might have been a mistake. Despite any direct sun, by the time early afternoon came it was clear that we were vying for the new titles of Lobster King and Queen. We should know better, but apparently we don’t.
Our arrival in Papeete left us with a couple of hours to wander before we could board
so we went back to the flower market and enjoyed the distinctive French stylings of the old town.
It was nice to have the ship in the harbour, since it always loomed large and allowed us to wander without losing our ways.
We finally boarded at 5:30 and found our luggage waiting for us outside our stateroom, 9112. We were probably among the first 200 hundred of the 1200 total, to come aboard and so when we went to dinner, the Grand Dining Room was empty. Dawn enjoyed a fresh Tahiti tuna, while I had veal oscar. We knew there were 2 flights that had not yet arrived with 300 more passengers. Tomorrow certainly won’t be as quiet.
We were pretty tired from the excessive sun, so cashed it in early, but my footnote tonight is for our son, Aaron. This last picture is your mother’s cheese plate at dinner tonight. We’ll never forget the hilarity everyone enjoyed at your expense when you tried to enjoy (?) your first cheese plate in France. Tonight’s was not nearly as stinky.
