Cairanne

After a fairly busy and tiring last couple of days, today was a non-event. The car didn’t move and we didn’t move much either.
We arose late and other than a walk about old Cairanne, we can’t list any accomplishments. Dawn is itching to get at the gardening, but wasn’t quite ready for it today. After yesterday’s late day downpour, the morning looked promising, but in the end the rain came back at dinner time, so that both dinners so far have been in doors. This has not been our experience in the past, but our only response is that this must be good for the grape harvest.
The lavender growing along the fence at Chez Pigeon - shown above - is not as colourful now, but still very fragrant. When we were last in Cairanne, the upper village was totally torn up and under construction. That is all past us now and they opted for the extruded concrete look with some highlight colours, for the finished look around homes.
On a typical Sunday, there’s a fair bit of tourism traffic in Cairanne since it - after all - is a “village perche”. Today was no exception and we aided with photo ops.
Corton and Cecile, Peter and Margaret’s kittys, returned to us today. They appear to be happy but have quickly realized that the wrong people are inhabiting their home. I’m guessing if we feed them, they’ll come around. We discovered that the vendage has not only not started, but isn’t likely to get going before October, due to an extremely unfriendly May weather wise. We discovered that the pomegranates growing below the house are a long way from ripe.
Tomorrow, we have plans to set out on some missions. More then.
What a fabulous place to spend a month!
