Lyon to Cairanne

We left Lyon this morning in brilliant sunshine and a total morning traffic jam. Fortunately the direction we were heading was with the traffic, so a mere half hour later, we were free of Lyon traffic - not that there wasn't pretty dense traffic the rest of the way to our turn off to Nyons.

This was our only Provence market this trip, so we had to make the best of it. We visited our tomato lady and of course Lillian, our tablecloth guy. Nyons remains a market that attracts tons of people, therefore parking is a nightmare and one walks forever to get to the market. I actually parallel parked into a spot that was less than 60 centimetres than the car and I only nudged the car in front of me two minor times. Nudging is totally European! It's quasi polite.

After Nyons, we drove to Vaison la Romaine and did some market shopping. Then we headed towards Gigondas in hopes that the Font Sane 2007 Les Terraces was still available. When we hit the village, the road was baree - blocked - so we proceeded to drive to the other entrance to Gigondas and got to the main parking area, only to discover that the town had been taken over by the wine agents of Gigondas- both sides of the street eating at L'Oustalet. Leaving Gigondas, we found another winery that was doing a nice export business to Ontario - le Gravillas, in Sablet.

From Gigondas we drove to Orange Sud and the Carrefour, past the poppy filled fields. On the way we found, for the first time, the home of Perrin & Fils - a winery that distributes big time to Ontario. There was no entry, as it was clear that their business was totally export.
After Carrefour shopping we headed towards Cairanne. We hit Peter & Margaret's place after visits to both the Coop and the Belvedere, the shop representing most Cairanne domaines.

About 5 O'clock we rolled into Peter & Margaret's place. Good to be home! After off loading myriads of wines to Peter's new 1000 bottle plus cellar, we proceeded to catch up. For those who have experienced Cairanne, the upload of pics of the progress will have to wait for tomorrow. Needless to say, it was fabulous weather here today, with another perfect sunset.
