Nyons and into the Dentelles

With the arrival of October, the weather has gotten cooler, but fortunately the sun continues to shine. Therefore, we were nicely bundled up for our walk through the market at Nyons this morning. This market is comparable to the one in Vaison la Romaine with most of the same vendors and for that matter most of the same shoppers, but I would say it is slightly smaller. We made a few dry good purchases today like a new jacket for Dawn for 10 Euros, a new table cloth from Lilian for a little more than that and a couple of pieces of pottery. Following market we took a drive across country to Gigondas for lunch at Les Florets, just up the valley from Gigondas and under the shadow the Dentelles de Montmirail. By now it had warmed slightly but we were still happy to have a table on the terrace in the full sunshine - not too many of these days left I suspect. Dawn, Carole and Claude selected from the Balade Menu. Claude started with the salmon gravlax while the girls had an eggplant salad with coriander and pesto. I selected from the Four Seasons Menu and started with foie gras embedded in a beef cheek pate. For mains the girls had sea bass with a confit of fresh tomatoes and chorizo. Claude had two kinds of pork while I had a chicken breast on a bed of girolle mushrooms. We all finished with a plum cake topped with vanilla bean ice cream. Our experience at this Michelin recommended restaurant was excellent. Next we drove around the Dentelles de Montmirail and up to Domaine de Coyeux where we tasted, among other wines, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. Up here behind the Dentelles, the views never disappoint. Then it was back to chez Pigeon for another evening of cards and good wine.
