Slow and Easy

It was a hot sultry one this morning. The first clue is when you wake to the serenade of cicadas. Before it got too hot we thought it might be nice to get out and do a few chores about the property. Dawn began some pruning and quickly received some assistance from Charlie and Odin. Since this is just the second time that we have been here in the spring, we were not really aware of how busy the grape (wine) farmers are. In the fall when picking is in full swing, we are used to the roads littered with tiny tractors hauling huge loads of grapes and the fields are full of either monsterous mechanical pickers or myriads of hot bodies hand picking the grapes. Clearly there is no down for them until the end of the harvest. There is tying up and pruning not to mention that the wineries are getting ready to bottle some of last year‘s or the year before‘s vats of wine. The mobile unit shown here at Camille Cayran (Cairanne's wine cooperative) is doing something related to bottles - ie. cleaning? bottling? labeling? Not sure, but they are busy. This is kind of day that leads to leisure - aka some good wine and a view from the terrace.
