The Vosges

Just when we thought we’d found the most beautiful Alsatian town, we discovered Eguisheim. With its narrow winding streets and flower laden half-timbered houses, this place was indeed magical. We meandered through town with the Sunday throngs marveling at the amazing sites at each new corner. We meandered so much we almost lost our car. Yikes!
After Eguisheim it was off to Turckheim, which was nice, but a bit of a disappointment after Eguisheim. We then chose to head north towards Obernai on the Route du Vins – never a disappointment. This is easily the most beautiful drive in any wine country. Each village along its route has a unique charm with medieval towers, crumbling castle walls, rough cobble stone roads and colourful half timbered houses.
Back in the Obernai, we ended the day with Munster cheese in our hotel room followed by dinner at La Dime, a favourite haunt. This place is always packed and serves a wide variety of Alsacien delights.
