Back to Domaine L'Ameillaud

Today was a light day to facilitate the newcomer's adjustment.

We started off with another visit and wine tasting with Nick Thompson at Domaine L'Ameillaud, literally minutes from Old Cairanne. Despite being in the centre of vendage, he gave us a great tour of the Cave plus we got to look at his rentable gite. Then we sat down for a tasting of the 4 wines he has left and exited with some product in hand. He makes really fine wines but most agreed that his Cotes du Rhone Villages Cairanne was the best. This wine used to be available at the LCBO, but, once again, he's had enough of them. So - no more! Perhaps LCBO needs to get the message that although they are the largest importer of wine in the world, that their business practices suck and they have definitely alienated some excellent wine producers.

Following this visit, we drove up to Visan once more and then over to Rasteau for a final tasting before heading back home.
This evening, we returned to Le Tourne au Verre in town for dinner. Tonight's 23 Euro menu was an amuse bouche of beef rillette. First course was an eggplant caviar with ham slices. Main course was duck breast on a bed of petit epautre risotto and vegetables. Dessert was a waffle with slices of fresh fruit. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
We took the steep climb back up to the house to be greeted by the kitties.
