Great food, great wine, great company, great views

So....we have yet to slow down. Of course, we're trying not to miss highlights with the family and they're not complaining. Carry on!
This morning we headed back to Nyons for the market and stopped at the la Vinsobraise Cave in Vinsobres. We're getting used to this 9:30 morning tasting thing. This place also had some really nice wine accessories that many of the larger Caves are now sporting.

Everybody enjoyed the Nyons market as well, but not as well as Vaison la Romaine. It was another spectacular day, so strolling and people watching was most entertaining.

We had lunch reservations for today at Verger les Papes in Chateauneuf du Pape, so off we went. It's a little under an hour from Nyons to Chateauneuf du Pape and we arrived just in time for our table by the terrace edge overlooking the Rhone valley.
Four of us elected to have the Menu du Jour which was a zucchini pave with a tomato coulis and onion confit for starters, a veal daube with mushroom sauce for main course and a nougat glace on a bed of apricots. Those who had this meal felt it was the best food in France thus far. Jessie had a wonderful smoked salmon for starters and a cepe mushroom pasta to follow. Aaron also had that pasta and they both raved about it.

I should subtitle today's entry "Stinky Cheese" beacuse the humour for the day was provided by Aaron as he tackled a cheese course. He wasn't prepared for the degree of pungency of every cheese they offered. He was really trying to enjoy each cheese, but the further he got into each offering, the louder the laughter at the table was getting in reponse to his reactions. In the end, we were all rolling the aisles with laughter and Aaron couldn't find one cheese that he could enjoy. We did applaud his bravery to wander out of his comfort zone, but we laughed anyway.

Following lunch, we did some real French shopping at Orange Sud - shoes, clothes and then food. The newcomers found the uniqueness of French products quite interesting and everybody had a little fun doing their own food shopping. This shopping included dinner for tonight which was the rotisserie chickens and lots of other local goodies.
