Last Day With The Kids

For the last day with our children, we started off at the market in Ste. Cecile which, although small in comparison to most, does a nice job of providing everything that the locals need.
From there we were going to make a quick jump to Avignon Nord for some bubble plastic, to pack some of their delicate items- aka bottles of wine. Heading south however, we got into seriously slow traffic through Orange, so canned the idea and stopped into Carrefour for some foodstuffs for dinner.
Then it was off to Gigondas and lunch at L'Oustalet. Before that, however, because we were a little early for lunch, we went for a stroll in Seguret. It's always a photo waiting to happen.

Gigondas was hopping on this perfect Saturday afternoon, but our reserved table awaited us under the shade of the ancient plane trees. We have never had a bad meal here and today was no exception.

The 29 Euro prix fixe offered a cold tomato soup with ravioli or a duck foie gras or a smoked salmon. At least one of the people at the table had each starter. The main course, which five of us had, was an absolutely melt-in-your-mouth lamb tenderloin on a bed of eggplant risotto. Amber went for the pintade - guinea fowl - which came with mashed potatoes in a delightful cream sauce. Everyone raved about the main course!

Dessert was either a chocolate banana ice cream or a peach and lavender ice cream, which everyone pretty much devoured as well.
After a short walk up into this beautiful village, we headed back to Cairanne.

Unfortunately, the crew were faced with the ardor of packing, but not before another stroll through the vieux village.
In the Ste. Cecile market this morning, we purchased some wonderful fresh pasta for our last dinner and at Carrefour we added some sauces and bits of lamb, duck and chicken.
The week has gone very quickly for everybody, but we're satisfied that everybody got a good sense of the French landscape, culture, history and of course the food and wine.
