Environs

Cairanne - Village perche!
We did not stray too far from home today and after a very slow morning finally ventured out to try some artistic selfies. The village has always been a fairly photogenic setting and now they have added historic plaques, to help out the tourists.
These were of course views outside Chez Pigeon and just below the church. Then we noticed a road upon which we had never set tires and off we went. We went past the Cairanne cemetery, now in a huge expansion mode with new plots and a large paved parking lot, then realized that was the wrong direction to find this new road. After a little repositioning, we got oursleves on the right track, one that led right to the top of the hills above Cairanne. It was pretty windy up top.
These roads are pretty much farmer's roads and are more or less paved and totally more fun to explore. As well as nice looks back at Cairanne, we had a good look at the next valley over and the St. Andeol winery that has seen wine end up in Ontario. They are of course higher up, from where the grapes are supposed to be at their best. Shabby setting!!
From here we made our way into Ste. Cecile les Vignes, mainly to visit the Pharmacie for some magic French cures, but also to walk the town on a day unpolluted by market going tourists. Oops, I think I just described us. Anyway, we cased Margaret's new restaurant recommends and took the prerequisite photos.
Except for the war memorial bench - always hidden by a market vendor - these pics have appeared in earlier versions of my blog, for any sufferers of deja vu. Since we stocked up nicely with food stuffs, we have not felt obliged to eat out and tonight was no different and.... it's hard to leave our view from this terrace.
